  Anti-Counterfeiting

For many years the FDA has required prescription drugs be identified and associated with an audit trail of handling (pedigree). Today the introduction of grey/black market drugs from unauthorized sources are skyrocketing the costs of legitimate drugs to the consumer.

RFID technology may be used to uniquely identify each container of prescription drugs without needing to visually see the identifier. This serialized identifier may then be used to associate each specific container with each pedigree or shipment document to help ensure that it is the “real deal”.

Using an RFID tag can also allow you to distinguish between product from a valid manufacturer and those products that may be counterfeits.

Today the FDA is encouraging the use of RFID technology to further the Anti-Counterfeiting effort. Some consumer goods retailers who operate in-house pharmacies are also mandating its use to identify bulk containers of prescription drugs and help alleviate the Anti-Counterfeiting problem.
