SIEMENS INTRODUCES NEW UID VERIFICATION PRODUCT

Fully Complies With New AIM Direct Part Mark And MIL-STD-130M, Change 1 Verification Standards.

ATLANTA, Nov. 8, 2007 - Siemens, the world leader in Unique Identification (UID) technology, today announced the introduction of its new UID verification system designed to meet MIL-STD-130 and Association of Automatic Identification and Mobility (AIM), Direct Part Mark (DPM) Quality Guideline DPM-1-2006 verification standards. The UID Compliance Verifier, DPM is now available.

As more Department of Defense vendors moved to comply with MIL-STD-130, they have found label technology inadequate to meet permanent identification requirements. As a result, they began marking parts with DPM techniques, including lasers, electro-chemical etch and dot peen technologies. To evaluate the quality of these identification marks, which use diverse substrate materials and marking methods, AIM created and released its DPM Quality Guideline DPM-1-2006. Most of this new evaluation system was quickly adopted by the DoD to ensure its vendors were in compliance with MIL-STD-130.

The UID Compliance Verifier, DPM enables the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) and its suppliers to comply with the AIM DPM Quality Guideline DPM-1-2006, adopted in MIL-STD-130M, Change 1. This new UID verifier also provides complete backward compatibility to the earlier MIL-STD-130 releases, and performs full syntax validation of data content, making it the most comprehensive and versatile UID verification and validation system on the market.

Capable of both tabletop and portable operation, the UID Compliance Verifier, DPM is the first verification system to fully meet the strict requirements of AIM DPM-1-2006 including all 10 illumination configurations and geometries. With its built in dome light for curved parts, the UID Compliance Verifier is configured to meet all current requirements. Additionally, this device meets the dome lighting requirement that will be outlined in the AIM Guideline, MIL-STD-130N, which is expected to be released toward the end of 2007.

Unlike other verification products, this all in one system combines camera, optics and the full set of required AIM DPM lighting into an easy to use, portable device. With Siemens new illumination control technology, the verification system rapidly and automatically cycles through each illumination option. It then reports the results to the user, identifying the best overall illumination setting for the marking technology and part surface of each specific application. Output reporting is comprehensive, precise, and easy to understand. Specific results may also be output as data fields to most SQL capable commercial data base products. Archive and retrieval of results is quick and easy.
